THE ASSOCIATION FOR THE PROPAGATION OF FAITH

APF-MILL HILL ORGANISATION

.

The APF organisation is a charitable organisation to aid the work of missions and missionaries overseas. It was founded in May 1822 by Pauline Jaricot of Lyon, France. In MAY 1922 Pope Pius XI declared it to be the Church's official organisation for helping all the missions.

.

The Mill Hill Missionary Society was founded in 1866 by Father Herbert Vaughan, who later became Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster.

.

In 1935 the Hierarchy of England and Wales asked The Mill Hill Missionaries to combine their organisation with that of APF and now the two work together as the APF-MILL HILL. All the contributions collected from the parishes are divided between both. The APF share is sent directly to world-wide Catholic missions, whilst the Mill Hill share supports the training of priests, brothers and lay associates for overseas work.

.

The current Mission Today magazine details work taking place in China, Pakistan, Addis Ababa, India, Kenya and the Philippines.

.

Locally we have 15 zealators, who, 3 or 4 times a year, collect the red boxes from about 120 homes in the Parish. Their work is vital and we are lucky to have zealators who make an effort to collect so regularly.

.

Following the recent sad passing of Kath Jameson, one of our loyal zealators who resided in St. Clement’s Court, we currently require a collector for St. Clements Court and around the Poolstock Lane area.

.

Our Catholic Missionaries depend so much on our help and it is so important that we continue to try our best to fill our boxes.

.

If you feel that you would like to contribute to the 'Mission Box Scheme' in any way, please ring Cab Webster on 236123 for more information. Also, please let Cab know if you have a box that has not been emptied recently.
